Frontier Takes Opener in Convincing Fashion, Splits with KC

Game 1 – Frontier 9, Kaskaskia 1
The Bobcats handled KC in dominant fashion on Friday at Southwest Park, earning a 9-1 victory.
Frontier got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after KC dropped a third strike and Alicia Stanley singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
The Bobcats added four more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 6-0. Kyndall Webb homered to left field, scoring two runs, Chloe Papineau singled to bring in one, and Alicia Stanley added another RBI single.
Lexi Miller earned the win for FCC, allowing three hits and one run over five innings while striking out four and walking none. Taryn Griffith took the loss for the Blue Angels, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in one inning of work.
Papineau, Webb, and Stanley each drove in two runs for Frontier. Stanley went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bobcats, while Peyton Smith added two stolen bases as FCC swiped five bases in the game.
Sydney Charlton, Griffith, and Emma Janning each recorded a hit for KC. Janning drove in the lone run for the Blue Angels. KC turned one double play defensively.
Game 2 – Kaskaskia 4, Frontier 2
The Bobcats were unable to complete the sweep, falling 4-2 to KC in the second game of the doubleheader.
An error allowed the Blue Angels to get on the board in the top of the first inning.
KC added two key insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on a home run to left field by Shelby Ashcraft.
Sydney Charlton earned the win for Kaskaskia, going the distance while allowing seven hits and two runs, striking out 10 and walking four. Chloe Papineau took the loss for Frontier, allowing four runs (two earned) on 11 hits over seven innings with one strikeout and no walks.
Papineau led FCC offensively with two RBIs, while Kayleigh Fodge and Peyton Smith each collected two hits. The Bobcats showed patience at the plate with four walks and turned one double play defensively.
Kaskaskia totaled 11 hits in the game. Charlton led the Blue Angels with three hits, while Ashcraft drove in two runs. Zoey Thomason and I Light each added multiple hits for KC. The Blue Angels played a clean defensive game, committing no errors, with Griffith recording a team-high 11 chances.
With the split, Frontier is now 9-21 overall. The Bobcats travel to Carterville today to take on John A. Logan in a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
